The New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq trade 9:30 am to 4:00 pm Eastern Time on weekdays, and close on US market holidays. Forex runs around the clock from Monday morning in Sydney to Friday evening in New York, with the London and New York sessions overlapping in the most active stretch of the day. The board below shows each market's live open or closed status, converted to your own timezone.

Reading the board
Exchange hours look simple until timezones, daylight saving and holidays collide. New York and London change their clocks on different weeks of the year, so the gap between them is five hours most of the year but briefly four; Tokyo never changes at all. This page sidesteps the arithmetic: each exchange's schedule is stored in its own local time, and your browser translates it, so the countdown is correct even across daylight-saving switches.
Tokyo and Hong Kong split the day with a lunch break, which the status board models as two sessions. US early-close days end at 1:00 pm ET, and the board knows about them. If you trade around the open or close, note that auctions and widened spreads cluster in the first and last minutes; "open" here means the regular continuous session.

- Regular NYSE and Nasdaq trading runs 9:30 am to 4:00 pm Eastern Time, Monday to Friday, except on the exchange holidays listed above. On early-close days (the Friday after Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve) the session ends at 1:00 pm ET.
- Why does the countdown match my clock?
- Your browser converts each exchange's local schedule into your own timezone using its built-in timezone database, which also handles daylight-saving changes on both ends. Nothing is fetched from a server.
- Is forex ever closed?
- The forex market runs continuously from Monday morning in Sydney until Friday evening in New York. The session windows shown are where trading activity concentrates; the London-New York overlap is typically the most liquid stretch of the day.
- Which holidays are covered?
- The 2026 NYSE/Nasdaq holiday and early-close calendar is included in full, from the exchanges" published schedules. Other exchanges currently show regular weekly hours only and are labelled accordingly; their local holiday calendars are planned.

Method and limitations
Session times are the exchanges' published regular trading hours, stored in each venue's local timezone. Open/closed status is computed in your browser against the IANA timezone database, which handles daylight saving on both your side and the exchange's side.
Limitations: holiday awareness currently covers NYSE/Nasdaq only (2026), and the other venues are labelled accordingly. Pre-market and after-hours sessions, and half-day schedules on non-US exchanges, are not yet modelled. Forex session windows are the conventional liquidity windows, not a regulated open and close.
