About these rates
The ECB publishes one reference rate per currency per business day, based on a market snapshot around 14:10 CET and released around 16:00 CET. It is the standard yardstick used in contracts, accounting and journalism, which makes it ideal for a calculator: stable, official and free of the hidden margins baked into "live" tourist rates. What it is not is an executable price: any bank, card or broker will apply its own spread on top, typically anywhere from a fraction of a percent to several percent.
Conversions here are computed in your browser as a cross rate through the euro table: amount × rate(to) ÷ rate(from). For example, with USD at 1 and GBP at 0.74893 per euro, one dollar is 0.7489 pounds, exactly the arithmetic you could check by hand.
Method and limitations
Rates are the ECB's official euro foreign exchange reference rates, republished by the open-source Frankfurter service and baked into this site once per day. Cross rates between two non-euro currencies are derived through the euro, which is standard practice and matches how the ECB intends the table to be used.
Limitations: one rate per business day (no intraday updates, no weekends), and real transactions will differ by your provider's spread and fees. For remittances, compare the provider's all-in rate against this reference to see the true cost.
