When Is the Next NFP Release?

The BLS Employment Situation report estimates the monthly change in US employment excluding farms, from a survey of about 120,000 businesses. It arrives with the unemployment rate (from the separate household survey) and average hourly earnings, together the fastest broad read on the US labor market.

Next NFP release

The jobs report is normally published on the first Friday of the month at 8:30 am ET.

US nonfarm payrolls, monthly change

Unit: thousands of jobs (monthly change). Ten years of history.

What this release moves

The jobs report is the classic first-Friday volatility event. Payroll growth, the unemployment rate and average hourly earnings print simultaneously, and the mix matters: strong jobs with cool wages can rally everything, while a hot wage number alone can sell bonds off hard. Forex traders watch it as closely as equity traders, and the whipsaw in the first minutes is notorious.

Frequently asked questions

What time is NFP released?
At 8:30 am Eastern Time, normally on the first Friday of the month, covering the prior month. Holiday weeks occasionally shift it; the countdown above reflects the calendar feed.
Why do revisions matter?
Each report revises the prior two months, and revisions are routinely large enough to change the trend. A weak headline with big upward revisions can read net-strong, so the market reaction weighs all three numbers.

Method and limitations

Chart series: PAYEMS (total nonfarm payrolls, seasonally adjusted) transformed to the month-over-month change in thousands: Δ = PAYEMS_t − PAYEMS_t−1.

The countdown reads the same feed as our economic calendar and converts the scheduled time to your timezone; when the feed window does not yet include the next date, the typical schedule is shown instead of a guess. History values are official published figures and can differ from initial prints where agencies revise data.
